Trips: Lincoln Memorial

Every Sunday, my family takes a short afternoon trip where my 18 month old can have fun and go crazy. Since we live in Northern Virginia, taking a trip to DC is easy and best of all FREE with all the free admission museums!

We were on the way to Hirschhorn Museum...but as we passed the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, we decided to go to the Lincoln Memorial (!?) instead! Street parking on the weekends are hard, but today was a warm, cloudless day with tons of people outside! So we were driving endlessly to find a parking space...but yes, we found a great spot in front of the Washington Monument!

From the Washington Monument, we walked towards the Lincoln Memorial. On the way, Audrey was able to run around alongside the Constitution Gardens Lake, meeting geese, pigeons, and police officers on horses! Looked very skeptical at the horses, but loved the geese bobbing their heads up and down into the water. Parts of the lake were frozen and that was pretty neat (but I'm sure my little one didn't know the difference!).

Probably took about 20 minutes (we do have a toddler running forwards AND backwards), but we finally arrived. Audrey braved all the steps up and "wow"ed at the huge statue of President Lincoln. On the way back, we strapped her on the stroller and walked beside the Reflecting Pool at a nice "adult's" pace.

We were lucky it was a beautiful day, but it was great to be out in the fresh air and walk as a family. The whole trip took about an hour or so (parking was crazy) but it made our Sunday!
